Roullete, or Roulette is a casino game in which a ball is dropped onto a revolving wheel with numbered slots and bettors place their chips on which number the ball will land in. Bettors may choose to bet on a single number, various groups of numbers, the colors red or black, whether the number is odd or even, or if it is high (19-36) or low (1-18). There are numerous betting systems and strategies that can be used to increase your chances of winning.
There are three main types of Roulette: American, European and French. While the latter might seem a bit daunting to beginners due to its French terminology, players should persevere as it is considered to be the best-in-class variant of Roulette in terms of odds as it has a minuscule house edge of only 1.35% (Vive la France!)
The roulette wheel consists of a solid disc slightly convex in shape, with thirty-six metal compartments painted alternately red and black and two green ones on American wheels which carries the 0 and 00. These compartments are separated by metal partitions known as frets or separators and arranged in a non-consecutive manner on the roulette table. A croupier spins the wheel, called a roulière in French, and a small ball is spun into one of the compartments to come to rest finally on a number.
Outside bets are those placed on options found around the perimeter of the roulette table. These bets offer lower payouts than inside bets, but they are a great way to diversify your wagering experience. The payout for a successful column bet is 2 to 1 and for a Dozen bet you will get 17 to 1. The zero bet is the exception as it pays out 35 to 1.
